Birds have flown away
Arctic cold gushes down
Await snow any day
Leaves fallen to decay
Ground is everywhere brown
Birds have flown away
Garden tools pack every tray
Bushes roped and tied down
Await snow any day
Glaciers are breaking away
Fickle temperatures dancing around
Birds have flown away
Need jobs and growing pay
Collective threat no one to own
Await snow any day
Science is my way, but now I pray
We find common ground
Before birds are all gone away

Beautiful. Poignant. Thoughtful…..
I think it was last year, this week where we did our Beaver Creek talk and did some skiing ….that was a good gig!
Yup! This year we are planning a trip to Whistler if the schedule permits for the high school junior at home!
That's going to be amazing!
A powerful lament I could relate to, Surya! A short accompaniment from my end...
"Global warming? Nay!"
It's a myth - that's what some of them say
Hope they heed science one day
Soon before the whole world ends up in disarray!
Agreed
Let me echo Ken’s thoughts. Thanks so much for sharing this with us. It made my day!
Enjoy Super Bowl Sunday. I’m guessing you’re a Patriots fan?
Thank you very much ...
I am a Philadelphia eagles fan. But my son who has only known the patriots has grown up thinking his team naturally goes to the super bowl every year!
We have played with Nature too much, not listening to sane voices as Wordsworth.
Sparrows, eagles. falcons and rivers are all gone or dying.
Birds have flown away to return after a later day
Like a soldier returns only to fight another day..!
I loved the poem and the photo.
This afternoon I have been seeking refuge in poetry and came upon a poem by Anthony Hecht that features birds, too.
ANTHEM
These birds pursue their errands
On curvatures of air; Like swift and lyric gerunds
Unfurling everywhere, They lash the sky with ribbons,
With wakes of wrinkled blue, Chanting Orlando Gibbons
And Mozart's Non so piu.
Shall we not in all conscience
And glittering major keys Offer them fair responsions
And reciprocities? Fanfares and sound fulfillings
Of melodies unheard: Brave philharmonious Billings
And airs of William Byrd.
FYI:
Orlando Gibbons was an English composer (1583-1625)
William Byrd was also an English composer from about the same era.
Birds will be back
Snow will appear if not now, later
Life has to go on.
You have become very good at writing poems also(In addition to prose).
Maybe it is time to make a collection of them and get them published.
How many do you think one would need in a publication?
Perhaps 50-75 ...
Have to say that this is beautiful. Excellent, excellent message.
