Poem: Night of Darkness

It is there, I know it is
The city of a million gleaming lights
The city that never sleeps
I have seen it a thousand times
From this very spot

Not a car on the bridge but mine
Lights beaming out
As far as the eye can see
Dark pillars of the bridge looming over
The city must be to my right

An enveloping vacuum of nothingness
The shock of being alone
In a place that never permits it
Like a lone bee in a hive
A challenge to my sense of reality

The night of the blackout
A night when the city slept
A weary traveler, I pause
On the bridge and Will
My city into existence
