Poem: ROI

Screeching brakes and screaming sirens
Sounds of the urban jungle
Toxic haze and sardine subways
Life, one hurried jumble

Millions of lives making a choice
To jostle for the prime spot
Living in a closet and paying dearly for it
Accepted as one's lot

Art is great and access 24X7
Well liked advantages of the city
Jobs aplenty and incomes from heaven
Trapped here out of sheer necessity

Open vistas and rolling greens
A dream for the urban dweller
Time at a stand still and feeling of goodwill
Fleeting thoughts during rush hour

How one longs for childhood days
Of idling in cotton fields
In company of friends in endless laze
Growing up with welcome ease

I reluctantly accept this term
Of voluntary urban imprisonment
And hope to soon see rural days
As a return on this psychic investment
