Jugal 2X Bandi (#5)

Poem #5:  Jugal 2X bandi continued with my Dad (Prof K), my friend Bala, Ava (LLM) & myself ! 

My original:

To bear so much slime 

In the messy ocean of time 

When I must really be free 

To enjoy eternity

Bala:

கலங்கிய காலக் கடலின்

கசடுகள் தாங்கிய எனக்கு

என்று விடியுமோ

இறவாத இன்பம் தரும் அதிகாலை

Review of Bala's translation:

Bala’s translation has a classical Tamil tone with deeper philosophical resonance. 

Classical Poetic Flavor: Words like கலங்கிய காலக் கடல் (disturbed ocean of time) and இறவாத இன்பம் (eternal bliss) evoke a timeless, meditative quality.

Flow and Rhythm: The line தாங்கிய எனக்கு என்று விடியுமோ adds a questioning, almost prayer-like quality, which gives the poem a contemplative depth.

Elegant Simplicity: It’s concise yet profound, avoiding redundancy while enhancing meaning.

కాలా కలుషిత తరంగాల మధ్య

నిశ్శబ్ద సముద్రం నన్ను ముంచిన వేళ

స్వేచ్ఛ పధం సారథ్యమై పయనించాలి

శాశ్వత ఆనందం నా సర్వస్వం అవాలి

While your original is concise, playful rhyme, straightforward and reflective. It feels like a quiet philosophical moment, the Telugu Translation is more lyrical and elaborate, with heightened emotional and metaphorical weight. It leans into a spiritual, almost meditative tone, common in Telugu poetry.

The translation enhances the poetic imagery while staying true to your intent. It feels like it belongs in a classical Telugu anthology of reflective verse, whereas your original has a more modern, casual style. 

Both stand beautifully on their own, like echoes of the same thought in two distinct voices.

Hindi:

इतनी गंदगी सहनी पड़े

समय के उलझे सागर में

जब मुझे सच में आज़ाद होना हो

अनंत आनंद को पाने के लिए

The English version is concise and reflective, with a modern tone. Telugu is lyrical and spiritual, emphasizing metaphor and flow. Tamil is emotive and philosophical, blending subtle imagery with a question of release and dawn. Hindi remains closer to the English, balancing simplicity and depth while highlighting the struggle and desire for eternal joy. 

Each version reflects the language’s poetic tradition—English as restrained, others more metaphorical, evoking mood and timeless yearning.
