Here a poem my daughter in 8th grade wrote..
Fear
(referring to the Boston Marathon, 2013)
by Ramya Yedatore
Fear.
Lub dub, Lub dub, Lub dub
Heart racing, numb Legs, Head throbbing
The end is nearer than expected
Anticipating
Swift, long, painful strides
Eyes securely shut, limiting the world around
The end is in clear sight
Almost-
The ghastly roar is heard
Legs buckling, instantly closer to the ground
The end is far from here
Tumult
Shrieks, screams, shouts
Immediate flood of worried shoes, filling the road
Visibility fading, mind blurring
Blackness.
Heavy Eyelids, faintly open
Suddenly, rapidly, wheelchair rolling beneath
Neon yellow vests racing by
Uncertainty
Confined in a hospital room
Alert, looking down, upon the unharmed Body
The lucky one, all limbs intact
Realization
Continuous disaster outside
Smoke cleared, injuries displayed, tears shed
Life, sadly forever altered
Fear.

Sorry to hear about your friend.
This is terrific community action - we applaud you and your team! We were all stunned by the marathon bombing though not sure what more we could do than contribute to Boston Strong. We certainly experienced the same resilient response in New York after 9/11, but know that it only thinnly covers the sense of loss and invasion. We are with you in spirit.
Boston tragedy is so sad and unnecessary. Best wishes to your friend.
