Poem: Throw In The Towel

As I sipped my morning coffee and contemplated the weekend, I had this decided feeling that two roads diverged in the wood.  Down one road was filled with towels as battle flags. The other road was filled with white towels that sued for peace. I thought you, my friends might benefit from making the right choice.


Throw In The Towel


Oh Friends! Come listen

But don't cry fowl
With this, your new mission
To throw in the towel!

When the dishes are piled high
And the task brings a scowl
Don't skedaddle or for a maid sigh
Just pick up the soap and throw in the towel!

When it is time for the weekend
And you wish at the TV you were gawkin'
Sorry, don't grumble or growl
Just take the kid to soccer and throw in the towel



Oh Friends! Come listen
But don't cry fowl
With this, your new mission
To throw in the towel!

Tired from the week you say
The stress of work on you does weigh
Staring at a PC screen all day so much trouble?
Compared to raking leaves and attendant rubble?






Throw in the Towel
Hold off on your angry vowels
Be a man and pick up the shovel
(Otherwise for a good meal, you'll need to grovel)

Oh Friends! Come listen
But don't cry fowl
With this, your new mission
To throw in the towel!

What is that you chillao?
"I didn't sign up for this!"
"Foul, stop, time-out, bachao!"
This is only half-time brother, so towel it is

If you are told your shirt and pant are over matched
Or that golf game needs to be scratched
Or 'certain' friends you must host
Throw in the towel, or be toast

I am a Man (Ambalai, Mard, Mogavaadu, Gringo) you insist
Pshaw, from such appellations desist
Confronted with leaves, trash bags, dishes, pet and play-dates
Know that you are chore-machines at easy rates

So arise, awake, stop not till the goal is reached
Which is the realization that this truth can't be breached
Friends, you who live in hope, as you reach your fancy hovel
Listen, be a man, and throw in the towel!
